About

About Wah On

Wah On Funeral Home was founded to serve the growing Chinese community in New Jersey, filling a long-standing need for traditional Chinese funeral services. We welcome families of all backgrounds, and we are committed to compassionate, culturally sensitive care for every family.

Our name

Our name, 華安 (Wah On), joins 華 — the Chinese people — with 安 — peace and safety. It is what we hope to bring to every family we serve: the peace of knowing that your loved one is cared for properly, and that your traditions are understood without explanation.

Why we exist

For many years, Chinese families in New Jersey had few nearby options for a funeral home that truly understood their customs — the incense and offerings, the rites, the order of the procession, the observances that follow. Wah On was founded to change that: a funeral home in the heart of central New Jersey where a family can be understood in their own language and honor their loved one in their own way.

How we work

We believe a funeral director's job is to listen first. Every family observes differently, and we ask before we assume. We explain every choice and every cost plainly, in English or Chinese. And we stay beside the family from the first phone call through the service and the days that follow.

Our facility

Our funeral home is located at 17 South Adelaide Avenue in Highland Park, just off Raritan Avenue (Route 27), minutes from New Brunswick and Edison and easily reached from across central New Jersey. Our chapel accommodates traditional wakes with a full altar, overnight vigils, and services of every faith. Families are welcome to visit before making any arrangements.

Wah On shares this building with Jaqui-Kuhn Funeral Home, so you will see both names on the sign at the street. Same address, same front door — if you have found the sign, you have found us.

Working with our community

We welcome partnerships with temples, churches, senior centers, and community associations serving Chinese families in New Jersey. If you serve families who may need us, we would be glad to meet you, show you our facility, and answer any questions.
